Matthew is one of our bright and joyful Victorian residents who has flourished since joining Rosebush Supported Accommodation. Not even the lockdown could hold Matthew back, who has been making leaps and bounds towards his goals, particularly in the past three months.
Afford’s homes are filled with friendships and the best quality supports available within the disability sector.
“Matthew has made a massive improvement! In so many areas, he has done a complete 180. He communicates clearly, advocates for himself and has been expressing his emotions in healthy ways,” said Lifestyle Assistant, Nathan Littler.
Many of these changes have taken place in the last three months. Considering Victoria was experiencing the most prolonged lockdown globally, that reflects an extraordinary level of determination from Matthew and his lifestyle assistants.
“Matthew used to be a lot more reserved but now he enjoys sitting with staff, watching a movie with his housemates and he even visited Afford’s Forest Oak Supported Accommodation to attend their Melbourne Cup event. He had a great day there and said it was a lot of fun,” continued Nathan.
Other areas of improvement for Matthew have included getting up early by himself, improving his hygiene routine and allowing staff to deliver his medication. In addition, he is actively communicating when he would like attention or interaction from staff which has helped create harmony in the house.
Throughout lockdown, Matthew kept busy with a range of activities and enjoyed the great features of Rosebush house, such as the swimming pool.
Matthew shared with Nathan that his favourite activity is singing on the karaoke machine and his favourite part of the house is “having a swimming pool out the backyard for the hot summer days.”
With the lockdown lifted, Matthew is excited to visit his family and begin going on new adventures.
Afford’s Supported Accommodation will always support you to make the most of every day and achieve new goals.
