Experience from the top down
Nikole is more than a manager – she has extensive experience that she draws on every single day while she leads the Community Solutions team. The knowledge from her postgraduate studies in critical care, and her Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment are grounded in the practical experience she gained in 12 years as an Intensive Care Unit nurse.
Nikole specialises in setting up and managing complex and 24 hour client programs, and works with many of the other teams at Independence Australia to achieve the best outcomes by taking a holistic approach to her work and management style. Nikole’s extensive experience makes her more than just a manager – her experience enables her to predict where problems might arise so they can be avoided, to better deliver a high level of complex, 24-hour care to clients.
It’s all about the people
Another key member of the Community Solutions team is the relationship manager, Lewis. Lewis is a naturally people-centred person. He has backpacked through six out of seven continents (there weren’t enough people in Antarctica to entice him to visit). He loves connecting with new people, and the challenge that comes with working to improve a client’s quality of life. Lewis spent three-and-a-half years working with the NDIS before coming to Independence Australia, and he brought with him a wealth of experience working with people with complex needs. He is about to celebrate his two-year anniversary as part of the team.
When you ask Louis what he enjoys about working at Independence Australia, he uses an interesting turn of phrase. He says it is a privilege to be able to take a holistic approach with clients by offering such a wide range of services. For Louis, being able to offer true end-to-end care to clients is an important part of making clients’ lives easier.
