LumoWay: Learning for life, built around the learner

What if learning everyday skills felt less like completing a course and more like progressing through a journey that belonged to you?

That question led Learn to Care to create LumoWay, a free learning platform designed to help adults with disability build practical knowledge, confidence and everyday skills at their own pace.

LumoWay is an initiative by Learn to Care, created to make useful learning easier to access, more engaging and more relevant to everyday life.

Why we created LumoWay

There is plenty of professional training available for workers and providers. But participants also deserve access to learning designed specifically around their own goals.

That might mean understanding your rights.

It might mean learning how to recognise an online scam, communicate a choice, prepare for work, build confidence or understand something that affects your everyday life.

LumoWay gives participants a place to learn these skills without needing to purchase courses or navigate a traditional training system.

Turning learning into a journey

We wanted LumoWay to feel different.

Learners are guided by Lumo, a friendly digital learning sidekick who helps them move through each stage.

Instead of long lessons and complicated screens, learning is broken into shorter steps with practical examples, questions and activities.

Gamification makes progress visible.

Learners can complete lessons, answer questions, earn points, reach milestones and collect certificates as they progress.

The aim is simple: make learning something people want to continue.

Certificates recognise completed learning and can help participants build a personal record of their development, whether they are learning for everyday life, preparing for employment, developing confidence or working towards personal goals.

Free learning with real-world purpose

LumoWay is designed to remain accessible to participants, with the learning experience offered free.

The first planned courses include My Rights, My Choices and Staying Safe Online, with more everyday learning pathways to follow.

Learners can work independently or alongside a family member, support worker, mentor or another person they choose.

Independence does not mean doing everything alone. It means having more knowledge, more choice and more confidence to take part in decisions about your own life.

Building it together

LumoWay is also designed to grow through partnership.

Learn to Care wants to work with NDIS providers, disability organisations, employment services, community groups, allied health professionals and other agencies to develop learning that reflects the real situations participants face.

The bigger goal is not simply to build another course library.

It is to create a shared learning ecosystem that helps people understand more, practise more and participate more fully in work, community and everyday life.
