At The Bridge, support isn’t just about one part of life. We work alongside people with disability as they pursue their goals across employment, community participation, recreation and independent living. Matt’s story is a great example of what that can look like.
A qualified horticulturalist, Matt is a valued member of The Bridge Works Mow & Mend team, where he combines his passion for plant and garden care with meaningful employment. Through the social enterprise, Matt puts his skills into practice while contributing to a business that creates employment opportunities for people with disability.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys opportunities to connect, explore and try new experiences through The Bridge’s leisure and recreational program, Getaways. In 2026, he joined an interstate holiday to Byron Bay, enjoying everything from local beaches and markets to Cape Byron Lighthouse, Minyon Falls and Crystal Castle. The trip offered plenty of adventure, along with opportunities to build friendships and greater independence.
This year also brought an exciting new chapter for Matt when he became the first resident to move into The Bridge’s new Specialist Disability Accommodation home in Noble Park. Moving into his new home has been an important step towards greater independence while staying connected to the people, supports and opportunities that matter to him.
Matt’s story shows what can be possible when the right supports and opportunities come together. Whether it’s developing skills at work, trying something new or taking steps towards greater independence, The Bridge supports people to make their own choices and live a life that is meaningful to them.
